Notes: Shihua was a form of poetry criticism was a historic form consisting of a collection of brief appreciative remarks on poems. This often included a summary of the essential points of the poem and notes on the background circumstances that the poem was written against. An example of this form of poetry criticism is 六一诗话 by Ouyang Xiu 欧阳修 (1007－1072) (Idema and Haft 1997, p. 156).
